Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN for a night shift position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2+ years of Med/Tele RN experience.

Details

• 30-bed Med/Surg-Telemetry unit within a Level 1 Trauma, teaching hospital with Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations
• Patient population includes heart failure, A-Fib, AKI/CKD, respiratory failure, COPD, asthma, NSTEMI, sepsis, and diabetes
• Cares for post-op and post cardiac procedure patients with common med-surg co-morbidities
• RN to patient ratio of 1:4-6
• 12-hour night shifts, 7p-7a, 36 hours per week on a 6-week schedule
• Weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts out of every 12 shifts
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required to all adult med-surg/telemetry units in house
• Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors

Requirements

• Active GA or compact RN license required
• BLS certification required
• Must pass Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) EKG competency exam
• ACLS certification preferred
• Medical-Surgical national certification preferred but not required
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
• Skilled in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, and glucommander/insulin/heparin drip management
• Experience with IV insertion, central line management, and wound/post-op care required
• Skilled in groin management and foley insertion, care, and maintenance
• Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation skills required
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

• Provide strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing care in a Level 1 Trauma hospital setting
• Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams including RT, hospitalists, and intensivists (all available 24/7)
• Perform discharge planning and patient education, particularly on renal and fluid management
• Unit supported by CNAs, resource/discharge nurses, and a dedicated transport team
• Charge nurse role may carry a patient assignment
• Central Telemetry Unit monitors cardiac telemetry
• 1-day facility orientation plus 2 days of departmental orientation
• Holiday coverage required for approximately 75% of major holidays
• RTO requests subject to manager approval
• Navy scrubs required for RNs
