Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced OR RN for an Outpatient Surgery position at a Magnet-designated, Level II Trauma teaching hospital in Illinois, requiring at least 2 years of OR experience with specialized vascular, ophthalmology, and general surgery skills.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting with a Magnet-designated, Level II Trauma teaching hospital environment
  • Outpatient Surgery/Main OR unit with 16 operating rooms and 16 beds
  • 1:1 patient ratio for all shifts
  • Day shift schedule: 5x8 hours (07:00–15:30)
  • Call is pre-assigned by the coordinator; each staff member is expected to take 1–2 call shifts per week, including vascular call
  • 2–3 weekend days required per 8-week schedule
  • Holiday coverage available on a voluntary basis to fill call assignments or scheduling gaps
  • Charting performed in Epic
  • Scrubs are provided by the facility
  • Free onsite employee parking available
  • Local candidates are accepted with no radius restriction

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license (pending licenses not accepted)
  • BLS certification required; CNOR preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of OR experience required
  • Vascular and ophthalmology surgical experience required
  • Vascular call experience required
  • General OR experience required
  • CVOR and Hybrid OR experience preferred
  • Required surgical case experience: Endoscopic/Laparoscopic, General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Urology, and Vascular procedures
  • Required vascular skills: AAA repair, aortocaval/aortoenteric fistula repair, AV fistula repair, AV malformation surgery, atherectomy, carotid angioplasty/stenting, carotid endarterectomy, EVAR, femoral-popliteal bypass graft, renal artery bypass, TEVAR, vein stripping, and scrubbing vascular cases
  • Required general surgery skills: appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, inguinal/umbilical hernia repair, laparoscopic-assisted procedures, thyroidectomy (partial/total), and scrubbing general surgery cases
  • Required ophthalmology skills: cataract extraction/implant, eye trauma, glaucoma surgery, vitrectomy, and scrubbing ophthalmology cases
  • Required urology skills: cystoscopy
  • Trauma amputation experience required
  • Experience with electrosurgical units and fiber optic light sources/cords required
  • Professional competencies required: administration of blood products, cardiac monitoring, infection control, laser safety, radiation safety, specimen handling/labeling, and Universal Protocol (Time Out) procedures
  • 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration
  • Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Preferred experience includes ophthalmology (scrubbing and circulating) and DaVinci Robotic cases for general surgery
  • First-time travelers are not eligible for this position
  • RTO is ideally limited to no more than 5 days for the duration of the contract
  • All time-off and scheduling requests must be submitted at the time of initial consideration
