Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a 13-week Med/Surg assignment on a 52-bed acute care unit, requiring at least 2 years of experience and night shift availability.
Details
- 52-bed acute care Med/Surg unit, all private rooms
- Patient population includes ortho post-ops, neuro post-ops (laminectomies, discectomies, spinal fusions), general post-ops, and medical diagnoses such as COPD, pneumonia, cellulitis, and CHF; hemodialysis patients are also on this floor
- Patient ratios are 1:6-7, predominantly 1:7 on both day and night shifts
- CNA support of 4-6 per shift at a ratio of 1:10-12
- Remote telemetry monitoring available as needed, monitored from a separate unit; RNs are not required to read strips but may do so if experienced
- Common drips include Heparin, PCAs with MSO4, occasional Ativan gtts; no cardiac drips or continuous insulin
- Respiratory equipment includes intermittent BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow oxygen
- IV team on-site 24/7 — RNs assess IV sites but do not start IVs; PICC team also available
- Hospitalist, intensivist, and residents all in-house 24/7; RT and pharmacy (Pyxis) also available 24/7
- Charting via Allscripts (also referenced as Sunrise EMR)
- 12-hour night shifts, 6:45 PM–7:15 AM
- Every-other-weekend requirement (3 weekends per 6-week schedule); nights weekend rotation is Friday/Saturday
- Schedules are made 6 weeks at a time; staff may submit up to 6 time-off requests per 6-week schedule
- Floating may occur to other Med/Surg or Med/Surg Oncology units; possible float to IMC for Med/Surg overflow only — no drips when floating
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active WV RN license or compact RN license required
- Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required; ACLS is a plus
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- BSN not required
- Experience with peritoneal dialysis highly preferred
- Valid, unexpired driver's license required for consideration
- Any licensing hits must be disclosed
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify for this position
Additional Information
- Orientation consists of general hospital orientation followed by 2 full shifts on the unit
- Charge nurse carries a full patient assignment and is supported by a Clinical Assistant (CA) 40 hours/week
- COVID-positive or suspected patients may remain on this unit pending test results unless transfer to a dedicated COVID unit is needed
- Navy blue scrub top and bottom with navy scrub jacket required; hoodies are not permitted
- Holiday rotation coverage required
- Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before applying; cumulative travel time within the WVU system is capped at one year, after which a 2-year break is required
- Work history covering 7 years (or from graduation, whichever is less) with no gaps greater than 30 days is required; each entry should include hospital size, unit size, trauma level, and whether it was a teaching facility
- Two references are required: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference; if the candidate worked a permanent position in the last 12 months, one supervisor reference must be from that facility
- A skills checklist completed within the past year is required
- Copies of all certifications and a valid driver's license must be submitted
