Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU Float Pool RN for a night shift travel assignment at a Level II Trauma Center in Bangor, ME, requiring neuro and trauma critical care experience.

Details

  • Float Pool ICU position at a 411-bed Level II Trauma Center
  • Multispecialty critical care patient population including Medical, Surgical, Cardiac, Neuro, Ortho, Trauma, and Interventional cases
  • Common diagnoses include stroke, ICP monitoring, EVD drains, spinal precautions, DKA, sepsis, multisystem trauma, COVID, STEMI, NSTEMI, and heart failure
  • Patient ratio is 1:2 based on acuity, with the possibility of a 3rd patient during downgrades; ED Hold/Obs ratio is 1:4-5
  • Float pool RNs float between all levels of care including ICU, ED holds/observation, stepdown, and PACU holds
  • Night shift: 7P–7A, 12-hour shifts, 48 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation required every other weekend (Fri/Sat for night shift)
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • EMR: Cerner (required)
  • IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis

Requirements

  • Active RN license — ME state or Compact license required
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
  • Neuro and trauma critical care experience are required
  • Proficiency in ventilator management, critical care drips/titration, cardiac rhythm interpretation, hemodynamic monitoring (art lines, CVP), chest tubes, and drain management
  • Stroke experience required
  • Cerner EMR experience
  • Candidate's permanent address must be 100+ miles south/southwest of the facility in Bangor, ME
  • Candidates must not have previously worked at any Northern Light Health Hospital in a permanent capacity
  • Two professional references within the past year required, with at least one from a supervisor, manager, or director (charge nurse acceptable; peer references not accepted)
  • Copies of all certifications required for consideration
  • Full SSN required for consideration
  • Driver's license copy required for consideration
  • Flu vaccination required for employment clearance (medical exemptions reviewed on a case-by-case basis)

Additional Information

  • This is a float pool position — candidates should be comfortable functioning as a Critical Care Resource across multiple care levels
  • Charge nurse experience is a plus; be prepared to discuss any experience working in a charge RN (CRN) capacity
  • Department support includes CNAs (1:10 ratio), charge nurse, resource nurse (0700–1900), house supervisor (24/7), RT (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), intensivist available for consult (24/7), cardiovascular surgeon and team (24/7), and OT/PT/ST (0800–1600)
  • Phlebotomy is a shared responsibility between RN and phlebotomy staff
  • Orientation consists of a general hospital orientation and a departmental tour, followed by one orientation shift before working independently
  • Holiday scheduling subject to manager approval; all RTO requests must be submitted at the time of consideration
  • Professional scrubs required in any color; open-toed clogs (crocs with holes) are not permitted
  • Free parking is available on site
