Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Tele Float Pool position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital in Macon, GA, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience.

Details

  • Float pool position covering all Med/Surg Telemetry units within the hospital
  • Large academic teaching hospital with Level 1 Trauma designation, Chest Pain Center, and Stroke Center (637 licensed beds)
  • Med/Surg units range from 20–36 beds per unit
  • Patient population includes acute and chronic disease, common co-morbidities (diabetes, hypertension, infections, electrolyte imbalances), cardiac patients (post-cath, CHF, a-fib), and post-surgical patients (general, ortho, trauma)
  • RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4–6
  • 12-hour day or night shifts (7A–7P or 7P–7A), 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation of 5–6 shifts per 6-week schedule cycle
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • EMR: Epic (experience required)
  • IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis; monitors: Philips; vital signs: VS3 monitors

Requirements

  • Active GA or Compact RN license currently in hand
  • BLS required; ACLS preferred (EKG competency exam required during onboarding)
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Telemetry skills required: cardiac rhythm monitoring and interpretation, post-cath care, TR band management, and post-cath groin site management (no sheath pulls)
  • IV drip titration experience required: insulin, heparin, Cardizem, amiodarone, milrinone, Digoxin, and nicardipine (titration for HR only, not BP)
  • Proficiency with trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, IV maintenance, Glucommander, and patient assessment
  • Strong time management, care coordination, discharge planning, and patient education skills
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Travelers float to all Med/Surg Telemetry units within the hospital as needed
  • Orientation consists of 1 day of general facility orientation with educational modules, followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage required: must work one shift of each major holiday (Thanksgiving Day or day after, 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1)
  • Time-off requests must be submitted through and approved by the unit manager
  • Unit support includes CNAs, a unit secretary (on-unit 7A–11P, house-wide after), charge nurse, PICC team, discharge nurses, resource team, central telemetry monitoring, and 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
  • RNs are responsible for drawing labs off CVLs; most units use lab-collect phlebotomy for other draws
  • Navy scrubs required for RNs
  • Free parking is available on campus
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Former permanent employees of an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
  • No radius rule for this GA facility — local candidates are accepted at the same rate
  • Med/Surg certification is a plus but not required
