Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of experience and strong telemetry and med/surg skills.

Details

  • Inpatient Med/Surg Telemetry unit in a 637-licensed-bed Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital with Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations
  • 20-bed unit caring for a diverse patient population including stroke/brain injury, post-op surgery, and patients with acute or chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, CHF, and electrolyte imbalances
  • RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4–6, supported by LPNs and 2–3 CNAs per shift
  • Specialized procedures include trach care, chest tube management, insulin/heparin drips, glucommander, IV/central line management, wound care, and cardiac/telemetry monitoring
  • EMR: Epic (experience required); IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis; monitors: Philips
  • Additional equipment includes VS3 vital sign monitors, Dynamap portable monitors, bladder scanners, PCA pain management, Glucommander, and portable oxygen systems
  • 12-hour day shifts (7a–7p); night shifts (7p–7a) may also apply
  • Weekend rotation: 6 shifts per 6-week schedule
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required to all adult med/surg and telemetry units within the facility

Requirements

  • Active GA or Compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current BLS and Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) certifications required; ACLS preferred
  • Medical-surgical national certification preferred but not required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a Med/Surg or Telemetry setting
  • Most recent experience must be within the last year
  • Proficiency with Epic EMR required
  • Strong skills in telemetry interpretation, IV insertion and management, central line care, wound care, and post-op monitoring
  • Experience in a Level 1 Trauma or academic teaching hospital setting preferred
  • Must provide last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth for consideration
  • At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities include cardiac monitoring, telemetry interpretation, care coordination with interdisciplinary teams, discharge planning, and patient education on renal and fluid management
  • Unit support includes CNAs for vitals/ADLs, a unit secretary (7a–11p), charge nurse, respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), intensivist (24/7), PICC team, and a Central Telemetry Unit for monitoring
  • Orientation consists of 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Travelers are expected to work approximately 75% of major holidays; holiday coverage includes Thanksgiving Day or the day after, 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1
  • RTO requests require manager approval
  • RN scrub color: Navy
  • Candidates who previously worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
  • No radius rule applies — local candidates in GA are accepted at the same rate
