Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Cardiac Stepdown (CVU) position at a Level I Trauma facility in Nebraska, requiring at least 1 year of cardiac/stepdown experience and active ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.

Details

  • Cardiovascular Unit (CVU) stepdown in an acute care, Level I Trauma hospital setting
  • 18-bed unit supporting the thoracic program, EP, cath lab, and structural heart programs
  • Patient population includes intermediate care and downgraded CVICU patients with diagnoses such as CVAs, CHF, A-fib RVR, cath lab, and other cardiac and vascular conditions
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4, or 1:3 for post-surgical patients within the first 24 hours
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including amiodarone, nitroglycerin, nicardipine, epinephrine, cardizem, and other blood pressure management medications
  • Remote telemetry techs on unit; RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry strips — unit has hardwired tele and tele box capabilities
  • RT available 24/7; respiratory equipment in use includes BiPAP, CPAP, and nasal cannula
  • Charge nurse on each shift; charge rarely takes a patient assignment
  • Nurse aides/PCTs available at a 1:18 ratio
  • Hospitalist and intensivist in-house 24/7; cardiology on call after hours
  • 12-hour night shifts (1830–0700)
  • Every other weekend required
  • No call or standby requirement
  • Floating required to same-level and lower-acuity units
  • EMR: Epic

Requirements

  • Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience, with at least 1 year of experience with cardiac/stepdown patient population
  • Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips required
  • Driver's license required — used to verify permanent residence is at least 50 miles from the facility
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years — both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity

Additional Information

  • Candidates must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • A pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered during orientation on Friday; a minimum score of 90% is required to pass — failure results in contract termination
  • Orientation is tailored to the individual's needs and experience, typically 1–2 shifts on the unit
  • Scrub color: Navy Blue
  • Artificial nails are strictly prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result to contract termination
  • RTO requests of 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
  • Schedule is manager-assigned; no block scheduling or self-scheduling
