Description
American Traveler is seeking a travel RN for a 17-bed Intermediate Telemetry unit (4S) with experience managing cardiac and stepdown patients, requiring ACLS and a pass/fail EKG test on the first day.
Details
- 17-bed Intermediate Telemetry unit (stepdown level) with a 1:4 patient ratio
- Primarily cardiac patients including AFib, CHF, pre/post cath, and open heart waiters; also respiratory/COVID, renal, stroke/TIA, some post-op, and ICU transfers
- Telemetry monitoring via waveform monitors on patient teleboxes, a tele bank at the nurses station, and tele techs at central monitoring — RNs are still responsible for interpreting and signing strips
- Oxygen modalities include Airvo, continuous BiPAP, and high-flow; no vents or trachs
- Drips include Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, and Insulin, with titration of Cardizem and Nitro; also manages HF drips, multiple drains, central lines, chest tubes, and wound vacs
- PCA support is regularly scheduled (3 per day shift, 2 per night shift); if PCAs are pulled to sit, the RN assumes full care
- Charge RN on days typically carries no assignment or 1–2 patients; charge on nights carries a full assignment
- Phlebotomy is available for lab draws
- Night shift position
- Epic EHR is used (training preferred)
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active OH RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Telemetry or stepdown/intermediate care unit experience required
- Ability to interpret and sign telemetry strips required
- Pass/fail EKG (Dysrhythmia) exam administered on first day; two attempts are allowed and a study guide will be provided
- Proof of address and full SSN and DOB (MM/DD) required for consideration
- Supervisory reference (1) required for consideration
- Copy of certifications and Nursys license required for consideration
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for travel pay rates
Additional Information
- Conducts initial and ongoing patient assessments, develops and implements individualized plans of care, and evaluates treatment effectiveness
- Manages patients with multisystem conditions including hemodynamic monitoring, chest tube care, and advanced respiratory modalities
- Administers and titrates IV drips; manages central lines, wound vacs, and other complex interventions
- Serves as point of contact for care coordination across hospital departments and collaborates with interdisciplinary team members
- Acts as patient and family advocate in collaboration with spiritual care, palliative care, and ethics teams
- Local candidates will not be considered for this position
- Adults (18–64) and geriatric patients (65+) are served on this unit
