Description

American Traveler is seeking a chemo-certified Oncology RN with a valid NC or compact license for a Med/Surg Oncology night shift travel position requiring at least 2 years of inpatient experience.

Details

  • Med/Surg Oncology unit in a hospital setting with a daily census of 42
  • Primary patient population is general medical-surgical patients with oncology history, including diagnoses such as AKI, sepsis, septic shock, cancer, malignant neoplasms, ARF, encephalopathy, FTT, diabetic foot ulcers, and heparin drips
  • Administration of chemotherapy/biotherapy via IV, PO, or injection is performed on this unit
  • Target nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6; ratios may be higher during periods of increased census
  • Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating is required to similar units and alternate care locations, including inpatient holding in the ED or other medical patient care areas
  • On-call may be required if called off on a pre-scheduled shift; called-out shifts must be made up with rescheduled shifts
  • Contract length is 13–26 weeks
  • Uses Epic for documentation, Pyxis for medication management, and SBAR for communication

Requirements

  • Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
  • Active ONC (Oncology Certified Nurse) certification is required
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Ability to administer chemotherapy is required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Inpatient Med/Surg experience required
  • Required skills include: colostomy care, port access, blood product administration, central line blood draw, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, heparin drips, insulin administration, surgical drains, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions, and wound care/wound vac
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates are accepted
  • Orientation consists of 24 hours (2 shifts)
  • Scrub colors required: navy blue and white
  • Monthly staff meetings attendance is expected
  • Contract staff are assigned equally alongside permanent staff to ensure patient coverage
  • Contract staff will be assigned to a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters; reassignment to other units during such events is possible
  • No RTO (time off) is permitted after booking and cannot be arranged onsite; excessive call-offs or additional RTO may result in contract cancellation
  • Preferred qualifications include CPI certification, OCN certification, and charge nurse experience
