Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU position specializing in acute leukemia and hematology, requiring a minimum of 2 years of nursing experience and active OH or compact RN license.

Details

• Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in an acute care hospital setting, focused on acute leukemia and hematology patients
• Patient population includes adults and geriatrics, primarily newly diagnosed acute leukemia patients
• Target nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4, with a possible maximum of 1:5
• 12-hour night shifts (19:00–07:30), 3 shifts per week; rotating day/night contracts may also be available depending on departmental needs
• No set or blocked scheduling — self-schedule requests are accepted and accommodated before schedules are finalized
• Shift assignments are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period; changes are based on staffing priorities and are not guaranteed
• Weekend scheduling is variable based on unit needs
• Charting is performed in Epic

Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license required
• Required certifications: BLS and ACLS
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
• Required skills: Med/Surg telemetry, telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, central line blood draw, peripheral line care and management, PICC line management, starting IVs, feeding tube care and management, and use of Rapid Response Teams
• Epic EMR experience strongly preferred
• 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration
• Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained required for consideration

Additional Information

• Chemo certification is NOT required for this position
• Preferred certifications: ONS Chemo Certification and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Strong emphasis on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
• Orientation consists of the first week on Mon–Fri dayshift, followed by a second week of 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor
• First-time travelers will be considered and will be screened for client review
• All time off and scheduling requests must be submitted at the time of initial application
• No break-in-service period is required between assignments when changing representation at this facility (exception: Sterile Processing Techs require a 30-day break)
