Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a float pool ICU position requiring at least 2 years of ICU experience and Cerner or Epic proficiency, with rotation across multiple critical care units.

Details

  • Float pool assignment rotating across multiple ICU units: General Cardiac ICU (10 beds), CVICU (12 beds), MICU (14 beds), Neuro ICU (14 beds), and Surgical ICU (14 beds)
  • General Cardiac ICU patients include STEMI, post heart cath with interventions, respiratory failure/ventilated, post cardiac arrest, post stroke care, renal failure, hypertensive emergency, and sepsis
  • CVICU patients include post-op CABG, valve and thoracotomy cases, V-A and V-V ECMO, post cardiac arrest, post heart cath, and post-op vascular surgery
  • MICU patients include acute respiratory failure, acute renal failure, acute liver failure, DKA, sepsis/septic shock, and some post-surgical cases
  • Neuro ICU patients include CVA, subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), subdural hemorrhage (SDH), intraparenchymal hemorrhage (IPH), and seizures
  • Surgical ICU patients include post-surgical, trauma, vascular, multisystem trauma, and neuro trauma cases
  • Patient ratio is 1:2 across all ICU units
  • General Cardiac ICU skills include vent care, hemodynamic monitoring, medication titrations, arterial lines, IABP, Impella, EKOS, CRRT (PrismaFlex), chest tubes, Swan-Ganz catheters, FloTrac monitoring, titratable drip management, and hypothermia protocol
  • CVICU skills include Swan-Ganz catheters, arterial lines, hemodynamic monitoring, chest tubes, CRRT, medication titration, IABP, Impella, EKOS, vent management, and Tandem Life/Tandem Lung
  • MICU skills include arterial lines, trach care, chest tubes, vasopressor usage, sedation management, and central lines
  • Neuro ICU skills include trach care/maintenance, arterial lines, vent/ETT management, EVD, and ICP monitoring
  • Surgical ICU skills include trach care, arterial lines, chest tubes, wound care, and drip management (pressors and sedation); CRRT preferred
  • EMR: Cerner; IV pumps: Plum 360; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Spacelabs
  • RNs are required to read and interpret ICU telemetry/monitoring strips
  • 12-hour day (7a–7p) and night (7p–7a) shifts available on a 36-hour standard weekly schedule
  • Every other weekend rotation required; back-to-back weekends possible but rare
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating may occur to like units (ICU-to-ICU, ICU-to-MS task limited to 3, ICU-to-ER/ICU holds)
  • 6-week scheduling cycle

Requirements

  • Active AL RN license or compact RN license required
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
  • Cerner or Epic experience required
  • Proficiency with critical care skills relevant to assigned unit (see job details for unit-specific skill requirements)
  • Must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • Required for consideration: 1 professional reference (charge nurse level or above from the past 12 months), copy of current certifications, full SSN, and date of birth (day and month)

Additional Information

  • Travelers will be assigned a home unit on the first day of orientation
  • Orientation includes 24 hours of classroom time and 24 hours of on-unit training for those new to the facility or returning after 1+ year absence
  • Unit support includes CNAs (1:10 ratio), a charge nurse each shift, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and hospitalist coverage
  • Holiday coverage is required for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy; specific dates are not guaranteed off
  • Pre-approved RTO blackout periods apply — contact your recruiter for specific restricted dates
  • No scrub color requirement — any color is acceptable
  • Staff parking is available on campus
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply with at least 2 years of ICU experience and Cerner or Epic proficiency
  • Former permanent staff must wait at least 6 months before being considered for a travel assignment
  • An interview is required as part of the hiring process for this position
