Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring neurosurgery and orthopedic experience, Epic proficiency, and a valid IA or compact RN license.

Details

• 25-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit in a hospital setting
• Patient population includes neurosurgery, craniectomy, and orthopedic cases
• RN-to-patient ratio of 1:5–6
• Drip experience utilized on unit includes Heparin, PCA, and 3% Sodium (no titration required)
• Specialty equipment includes telemetry, chest tubes, and Airvo
• Charting performed in Epic EMR
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts
• Every 3rd weekend required
• Holiday rotation required
• Floating required across multiple campuses (Iowa Methodist MC, Iowa Lutheran, and Methodist West Hospital)
• No on-call responsibilities

Requirements

• Active Iowa (single-state) or compact/multistate RN license required
• Current AHA or ARC BLS and ACLS certifications required
• NIHSS certification preferred (can be obtained during onboarding)
• Minimum 24 months of Med/Surg experience in a hospital or medical center setting required
• Neurology, neurosurgery, or craniectomy care experience required
• Orthopedic care experience required
• Trauma Level I experience highly preferred
• Epic EMR experience required
• EKG strip reading, measuring, and telemetry monitoring experience required
• Heparin, PCA, and 3% Sodium drip experience required
• Experience with telemetry, chest tubes, and Airvo highly preferred
• De-escalation certification (CPI, MOAB, MAB, or SAMA) highly preferred
• Driver's license required for consideration
• Supervisory performance evaluation or professional reference from within the past 2 years preferred for consideration
• Must have completed at least one travel assignment within the previous 12 months — first-time travelers will not be considered

Additional Information

• Provide Med/Surg Telemetry nursing care to neurosurgery, craniectomy, and orthopedic patients
• Travelers are required to work 2 of the 3 winter holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's
• Candidates who were employed by the facility within the past 12 months may not be eligible for this position
• Navy blue scrubs required
