Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Surgical Stepdown position in St. Louis, MO, requiring a minimum of 2 years of stepdown experience and active MO or compact RN license.
Details
- Work setting is a 29-bed Surgical Stepdown unit (6 West Med/Surg Intermediate) within a Level 2 Trauma Center and Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Center
- Patient population includes post-op high acuity surgical patients, trauma patients, and high acuity medical patients requiring cardiac drips, BiPAP, and close monitoring
- Patient ratio is 1:3 or 1:4
- EMR is Epic
- Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required to any department of equal or lower acuity as needed
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active RN license in Missouri or a compact state currently in hand
- Valid U.S. Social Security Number required (Canadian SINs not accepted)
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications from AHA required
- Minimum 2 years of stepdown experience required
- Stepdown or ICU experience required; post-op care experience required
- Proficiency with BiPAP and cardiac drip management required
- Strong time management and critical thinking skills required
- No employment gaps of 90 or more days within the past 12 months
- Ability to stand and walk for most of the shift; must be able to lift, push, pull, and grip up to 50 lbs. and pinch up to 15 lbs.; bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling required
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for post-surgical, trauma, and high-acuity medical patients using the nursing process
- Coordinates patient care activities with ancillary departments to optimize patient outcomes and comfort
- Flu vaccination or a Mercy-approved exemption is required for assignments running November 1 through April 1; declinations are not accepted
- Black scrubs required; attire must meet Mercy standards (no specific graphic t-shirts; scrub top or jacket with Mercy logo and black scrub pants acceptable)
- RTO of up to 5 days is allowed but must be made up during the assignment; only 1 holiday RTO request per assignment
- Candidates living within 50 miles of the facility are eligible but will be subject to a reduced bill rate
- Local candidates within 50 miles are limited to 3 consecutive 13-week contracts at this facility before a 1-year separation or transfer outside the 50-mile radius is required
