Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU (Pulmonary/GI) position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated academic teaching hospital, requiring Epic proficiency and PCU/stepdown experience.

Details

• Progressive Care Unit (PCU) focused on Pulmonary and GI patient populations
• Adult and geriatric patient population with a daily unit census of 27
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5
• Hospitalist-run PCU; no ventilated patients on this unit
• Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
• Every other weekend (EOW) or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block may be required
• Floating within skillset required
• CNA support is not always available
• Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

• Active VA state RN license or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Prior PCU, DOU, IMC, or stepdown experience required
• Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and emergency response
• Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
• Experience administering cardiac drips (non-titrating)
• Respiratory support experience including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
• Familiarity with rapid response/code team protocols and isolation precautions
• PDF copies of Driver's License and Social Security Card required for consideration
• Two professional references required for consideration

• 703-bed acute care facility; the region's only Level I Trauma Center, Magnet-designated for nursing excellence, and affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine
• Certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center with advanced specialty and dedicated children's hospital services
• Must work one holiday during the 13-week contract
