Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center in Winston-Salem, NC, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry experience.

Details

  • 24-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a large academic medical center and Level 1 Trauma facility with 885 licensed beds
  • General medicine patient population with common diagnoses including diabetes, GI conditions, respiratory illness, renal conditions, and wounds; procedures include dressing changes, chest tubes, trachs, and lab draws
  • RN-to-patient ratio of 5-6:1; CNA ratio of 8:1
  • Centralized telemetry monitoring
  • EMR: Epic (experience required); IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell
  • 12-hour night shifts (1830–0630), 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating to other Med/Surg units required
  • 6-week scheduling cycle with manager approval required for RTO

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry (MST) experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Proficiency with telemetry strip interpretation required
  • Experience with chest tubes, trachs, PIV starts, drains and tubes, and PCA pumps required
  • Drip management experience required, including Amiodarone, Fentanyl PCA, Ketamine PCA, Dilaudid PCA, and Heparin
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; ability to work collaboratively and manage moderate to high stress levels
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position

Additional Information

  • Departmental support includes CNAs, a Receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, phlebotomy team, Rapid Response Team, Respiratory Therapy (24/7), Hospitalist (24/7), and Intensivist (24/7)
  • Orientation includes a New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
  • Royal blue scrubs required
  • Free employee parking available
  • Unit culture is described as patient-centered, highly reliable, and team-oriented
  • First-time travelers may be considered for candidates with a strong Med/Surg Telemetry background
  • Candidates who have worked a permanent position at an Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
