Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level 1 Trauma Academic Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Surg Tele experience and active NC or compact RN licensure.
Details
- Work in a 24-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit at a 885-bed Level 1 Trauma Academic Medical Center and Stroke/Chest Pain Center
- Patient population includes general medicine diagnoses such as diabetes, GI, respiratory, renal, and wound care
- Common procedures include chest tube and trach management, PIV starts, drain and tube management, PCA pumps, and lab draws
- Drip management includes Amiodarone, Fentanyl PCA, Ketamine PCA, and Heparin
- Patient ratio is 5-6:1
- EMR is Epic; experience with Epic is expected
- IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell
- Centralized telemetry monitoring with telemetry tech support
- 12-hour night shifts starting at 18:30, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- Floating required to other Med/Surg units
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry (MST) experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Experience reading and interpreting telemetry strips required
- Proficiency with chest tubes, trachs, PIV starts, drains and tubes, and PCA pumps required
- Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively
- Ability to tolerate moderate to high stress levels
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- Provide direct and indirect patient care to a general medicine population with complex needs including chest tubes, trachs, and IV drip management
- Department support includes CNAs, a Receptionist/HUC, Charge Nurse, Phlebotomy, Rapid Response Team, RT (24/7), Hospitalist (24/7), and Intensivist (24/7)
- Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Royal blue scrubs required

- Unit culture is described as patient-centered, highly reliable, and team-oriented
- First-time travelers may be considered with a strong Med/Surg Tele background
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted
- Candidates who have previously worked a permanent position at an Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
- A clinical interview is required
