Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a CVICU position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and active GA or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) setting in a hospital environment, specializing in complex cardiac and vascular patient care
  • Adult to geriatric patient population
  • Patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:1–2 in a 10-bed unit with an average daily census of 7
  • Specialized care includes patients with LVADs, intra-aortic balloon pumps, Swan catheters, temporary pacemakers, femoral and venous sheaths, arterial lines, TR bands, and CRRT
  • Titration of cardiac drips, vasoactive medications, and sedation for intubated patients
  • Post-procedural care for AAA repair patients, including strict positioning protocols
  • Intensivist present Monday–Friday with daily multidisciplinary rounds at 10 AM
  • Free charge nurse model — travelers carry a patient assignment
  • EMR: Epic; Medication dispensing: Pyxis; Communication framework: SBAR
  • Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating within the facility and scope of practice as needed
  • No on-call requirements

Requirements

  • Active GA or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of CVICU or relevant critical care RN experience required
  • Must have an active professional license at time of consideration
  • Copies of required certifications must be provided for consideration

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates are accepted
  • RTO maximum of 7 days for the contract period; RTO cannot be requested during the first week of the assignment
  • RTO blackout dates apply during Spring Break (April 4–12)
  • Holiday coverage policy: if one or two major holidays fall within the assignment period, travelers are expected to work all of them; if three major holidays fall within the assignment period, travelers are expected to work two — major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve/New Year's Day
  • No special scheduling requests are accepted — the posted shift is firm
  • Travelers must have been away from all facilities within this health system for a minimum of one full year before returning as a traveler
  • Two supervisory references (manager level or above; charge nurses not accepted) are highly preferred
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Effective communication between nurses, physicians, and the care team is essential in this unit
