Details

  • Work setting is a Long-Term Care/Skilled Nursing Facility (LTC/SNF) with 120 beds
  • Unit focuses on Memory Care and LTC, with a patient population that is primarily moderate-to-severe Alzheimer's and deconditioned rehab patients, with a small number of comfort care beds

  • Medication aides on AM and PM shifts handle standard medications; RNs are responsible for passing controlled substances (narcotics)

  • Floating required within neighborhoods and occasionally to comfort care

Requirements

  • Active RN license — Maine (ME) or Compact license required
  • Current BLS certification required

Additional Information

  • Daily responsibilities include rounding, documentation, passing controlled substances, diabetic assessments, fall assessments, monthly assessments, and managing CNAs
  • All staff assist with meals due to the high prevalence of dysphagia among the Alzheimer's population

  • Physician coverage is available by phone after hours; charge nurse, house supervisor, and team lead are present each shift with managers available by call
  • Orientation consists of 2 days of My Unity EMR training and 2 days on the unit, with additional time available if needed
  • Holiday rotation shared with permanent staff
  • Scrubs may be any color, provided they are clean, professional, and free of logos or camouflage patterns
  • N95 masks are used on this unit
  • COVID-19 vaccination is required per State of Maine mandate

Augusta, ME

About

Augusta is Maine's capital city and the easternmost state capital in the U.S. Located in the central part of the state just an hour from Portland, the Kennebec River, often overlooked by the copper-domed capitol building, divides the city. A riverside trail stretches for 6.5 miles from the Memorial Bridge, providing an ideal place for a walk or a run, while Mill Park anchors the north entrance to the historic downtown. The park lies along the river with sloping hills popular for sledding in the winter, and from spring through fall, the park hosts a farmers' market. Downtown Augusta is fun to explore, with its picturesque waterfront and Victorian architecture housing shops, restaurants and brewpubs. Learn more about Augusta's and Maine's history in the Maine State Museum and the Old Fort Western Living Historic Museum, which sits within New England's oldest surviving fort, dating back to 1754.
