Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) night shift position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital in Georgia, with a focus on cardiothoracic and vascular surgical patients.
Details
- Work in a 24-bed PCU at a 637-licensed-bed Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital with a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
- Primary patient population includes cardiothoracic and vascular surgical patients receiving pre- and post-operative step-down progressive care, including pre/post LVAD patients
- Secondary population includes cardiology, pulmonology, and general medical/surgical patients with comorbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, CHF, electrolyte imbalances, and infections
- RN patient ratio is 1:4–6; CNAs (2–3 per shift) assist with vitals, glucose checks, ADLs, ambulation, and transport
- Unit is supported by a charge nurse, unit secretary (7A–11P), house-wide call secretary (11P–7A), central telemetry monitoring unit, PICC team, discharge resource nurses, RT, hospitalist, and intensivist — all available 24/7
- EMR: Epic (experience required); IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis; monitors: Philips
- Unit equipment includes VS3 vital sign monitors, Dynamapp portable monitors, Glucommander, bladder scanners, PCA pain management, portable oxygen, and suction machines
- Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, 7P–7A, 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation: 6 shifts per 6-week scheduling cycle
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- Floating required to all adult med-surg/telemetry units within the facility, up to 6 shifts per 6-week cycle
Requirements
- Active GA or Compact RN license currently in hand
- Current certifications required: BLS, Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR), ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Medical-Surgical national certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years of PCU or relevant nursing experience, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, Glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, and drips titrated to HR
- Experience with IV insertion and care, central line management, wound care, and post-op monitoring
- Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation skills required
- Strong clinical assessment skills appropriate for a Level 1 Trauma hospital setting
- Experience at a teaching hospital or trauma-level facility preferred given the work environment
- Epic EMR experience required
- One professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN, required for consideration
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include care coordination with interdisciplinary teams, discharge planning, and patient and family education with an emphasis on renal and fluid management
- Orientation consists of 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
- Holiday coverage required; travelers are expected to work 75% of major holidays (Thanksgiving or day after, 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1)
- RTO requests require manager approval
- RN scrub color: Navy
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are accepted — no radius rule applies; the same rate applies to local travelers at this Georgia facility
- Candidates who have previously worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
