Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Swing Bed position at a Critical Access Hospital, requiring ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications with night shift availability.

Details

• Critical Access Hospital (CAH) Med/Tele Swing Bed unit with 10 beds
• Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with occasional pediatric patients; common diagnoses include swing bed patients requiring IV antibiotics, therapy, or wound care, as well as medical patients with conditions such as diabetes, pancreatitis, and pneumonia
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:3-4; CNAs/patient care techs are available with a 1:8 ratio
• A charge nurse is present on each shift and carries an assignment
• Charting is performed in Epic (experience required)
• 12-hour night shifts (1830–0700)
• Self-scheduling with manager approval
• Weekend requirement of at least every 3rd weekend, and at times every other weekend
• Holiday rotation based on unit needs
• Floating to the ED as backup may be required when volumes surge

Requirements

• Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses will not be accepted
• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required; pending certifications will not be accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Epic EMR experience required
• A valid driver's license is required for consideration and will be used to verify permanent residence
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible

Additional Information

• 13-week contract with 12-hour night shifts
• 2-day unit-specific orientation is provided
• A pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered during orientation; a score of 90% or higher is required to pass — failure to pass will result to contract termination
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to remove them will result in contract termination
• Navy blue scrubs are required
• Candidates may not have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI or Dignity) within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered
• RTO requests must be submitted upfront; no more than 7 days per 13-week contract will be approved, and additional RTO will not be approved after submission
• The unit is described as a small, family-oriented team with a strong teamwork culture extending to ancillary departments — a willingness to pitch in wherever needed is highly valued
