Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU (Progressive Care Unit) position at a comprehensive cancer center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of high-acuity PCU experience and an OH or compact RN license.
Details
- Work setting is a comprehensive cancer center with 318 acute care beds across specialized inpatient oncology units (36 beds per unit)
- Units are specialized by cancer diagnosis, including BMT, Acute Leukemia, Hematology, Medical Oncology, PCU Oncology, Gynecological Oncology, Urology, Colorectal, Surgical Oncology, and Corrections Healthcare
- Floating required across Med/Surg and PCU Oncology units as listed above
- PCU staffing ratio is 1:3, may be 1:4 with mixed acuity; Med/Surg Tele is ideally 1:4, up to 1:5
- Heavy emphasis on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30); rotating D/N scheduling may also be available depending on unit needs
- Shift assignments are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period and are based on staffing priorities
- Weekend scheduling is variable based on unit needs
- No set or blocked scheduling available
Requirements
- Active OH RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of high-acuity PCU-level or higher nursing experience required
- Oncology experience preferred but not required
- 16-week contract length
Additional Information
- Orientation consists of the first week Mon–Fri on day shift, followed by five bedside orientation shifts across weeks 2 and 3, then independent practice
- Candidates self-schedule shift requests prior to final schedule balancing and posting
- All time-off and scheduling requests must be submitted at the time of initial consideration
- No 30-day break between assignments is required when changing representation at this facility (except for Sterile Processing Techs)
- 2 professional supervisor references from within the past 2 years are required for consideration
- Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained is required for consideration

Units are nice, staff are kind. Single patient rooms with 4:1 ratios day and night on med surg.
Cons
Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
