Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/HVU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring at least 1 year of PCU-specific experience and cardiac procedural recovery skills.

Details

  • 12-hour day shifts in a 44-bed mixed-acuity Heart & Vascular Unit (HVU) serving Intermediate Care, Telemetry, and Med-Surg level patients
  • Patient population includes direct admits, ED admits, and post-cath lab patients with diagnoses such as MI, NSTEMI/STEMI, CHF, dysrhythmias, pacemaker malfunction, epicardial pacers, as well as backup stroke and medical overflow cases
  • Step-down level care provided for post-cardiac/vascular, post-cardiac cath, post-open heart surgery, post-TAVR, post-EP studies, and post-pacemaker insertion patients
  • RN-to-patient ratio is typically 1:4, adjustable to 1:3 based on acuity
  • Epic EMR used; candidates without Epic experience should be noted for manager approval
  • Alaris infusion pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing systems in use
  • Telemetry tech oversees cardiac monitoring; RN confirms strips at 6am and 6pm
  • Weekend rotation every other weekend required
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Holiday coverage required on a rotating every-other basis
  • Floating primarily to the sister General PCU unit as needed; may also float to MS/Tele or ICU to care for PCU-level patients, within scope of practice or below

Requirements

  • Active RN license issued by the South Dakota Board of Nursing or a Compact RN license currently in hand
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 1.5 years of general nursing experience, with at least 1 year specifically in a PCU setting
  • Experience with cardiac procedural recovery including CABG, TAVR, and post-cardiac cath care
  • Proficiency with MI pharmacology and titratable cardiac/vasoactive drips (Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Levophed, Dopamine)
  • Experience with Heparin drips and cardiac rhythm interpretation required
  • Chest tube management experience required
  • TNK administration experience preferred
  • Completion of a board of nursing-approved nursing education program required
  • Must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
  • Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
  • DOB and SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are considered with a minimum of 2+ years of nursing experience
  • Permanent staff must wait 1 full year after their last employment before returning as a traveler
  • Orientation consists of 2 partial days of education followed by 3 supervised 12-hour shifts on the unit
  • Unit support includes CNAs (ratio 1:5–8 depending on shift), an unassigned charge nurse, phlebotomy for peripheral blood draws, an occasional resource nurse, and RT available 24/7
  • Hospitalist is in the facility 24/7 but is not dedicated to the unit
  • May be expected to precept nursing students
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Free parking available on-site
  • RTO of up to 7 days allowed; a full week off requires contract extension; no time off approved during the first 3 weeks of August due to the Sturgis Bike Rally
