Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Intermediate Care (IMC) position specializing in neurological and medical intermediate patients, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and the ability to titrate vasoactive drips including Levophed.
Details
- Hospital-based Intermediate Care Unit (IMC) specializing in neurological and medical intermediate patients
- Patient population includes neurological sub-specialties (CVA, TBI, craniotomy, aneurysm repair, spinal cord injury, intracranial bleeds, seizure disorders) alongside general medical intermediate cases
- Patient ratio of 1:3-4 on both day and night shifts
- Unit capacity of 24 beds
- Night shift schedule: 12-hour nights, 18:45–07:15
- 36- or 48-hour work weeks available
- Floating required to other intermediate areas (6A, 5A PCTU, 5C Cardiac Intermediate) as well as critical care (ICU/Stepdown)
- Minimum of 3 weekend shifts required every six weeks
- Uses Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR communication framework
- Contract length of 13–26 weeks
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required; neuro experience strongly preferred
- Neuro Stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown, and Telemetry experience required
- Cardiac monitoring skills required: dysrhythmia interpretation and management, telemetry monitoring, and Rapid Response/Code team activation
- Cardiovascular skills required: TR Band
- Endocrine/metabolic skills required: IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips
- GI skills required: feeding tube care and management
- GU/renal skills required: continuous bladder irrigation (CBI) and pre/post hemodialysis management
- IV therapy skills required: blood product administration, central line care and management, PICC line management, peripheral line care, and IV insertion
- Medication skills required: Heparin protocols, PCA, thrombolytic agents, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips (including Levophed)
- Neurological skills required: management of aneurysms and repair, craniotomy, CVA, intracranial bleeds, lumbar drains, post-TPA care, pre/post neurosurgery, seizure disorders, spinal cord injury, substance withdrawal, and TBI
- Respiratory skills required: ventilated patient care, chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac), BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, tracheostomy care, and oxygen delivery systems
- Additional skills required: wound care/wound vac, surgical drains, and isolation precautions/PPE
- Preferred certifications: CCRN, TNCC, and CPI
- Preferred skills: triage, ICP monitoring, conscious sedation, and charge nurse experience
Additional Information
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
- Local candidates are accepted
- Orientation consists of 32 hours total: an 8-hour computer class plus two on-unit orientation shifts following initial hospital orientation
- Must pass an EKG test prior to start
- Scrubs must be any combination of navy blue and white
- RTO (time off) requests after booking are not permitted and cannot be negotiated once on the unit; call-off policy is strictly enforced
- An interview with the unit manager is required before placement; candidates should be prepared to provide availability within 72 hours of submission
