Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Telemetry unit position requiring prior travel experience, cardiac drip proficiency, and a GA or compact RN license.
Details
- Telemetry unit in a hospital setting, 32-bed unit
- Adult to geriatric patient population
- Patient ratio of 1:5-6
- Clinical scope includes arrhythmia management, cardioversion, CHF, chest pain, renal, pulmonary conditions (COPD, pulmonary edema), PE, DVT, stable cardiac arrhythmias (A-Fib, SVT, Bradycardia), surgical cases (cholecystectomy, appendectomy, chest tubes, biliary drains), post cardiac cath, TR bands, DKA, and Med/Surg overflow
- Occasional overflow of vascular, ortho, and CVA patients who are transferred to appropriate units as soon as possible
- Unit also serves as overflow IMCU
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:00)
- Weekend rotation is typically every other weekend; permanent staff are scheduled first and travelers fill in gaps as needed
- Floating required within the facility and within scope of practice as needed
- On-call is rare; 2-hour response time required
- Epic (preferred) and Pyxis used; SBAR communication standard
- Navy blue scrubs required
Requirements
- Active GA or compact RN license required at time of consideration
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered
- Proficiency with cardiac drips required: Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Milrinone, Nitroglycerin
- Proficiency with diuretics required: Bumex, Lasix
- Proficiency with anticoagulants required: Aggrastat, Argatroban, Heparin
- Insulin drip experience required
- Basic arrhythmia knowledge required
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Two supervisory references (Manager level or above; charge nurses not accepted) are highly preferred
Additional Information
- Local candidates are accepted
- RTO maximum of 7 days per contract; RTO cannot be requested during the first week of the assignment
- If one or two major holidays fall within the assignment period, travelers are expected to work those holidays and no holiday RTO may be requested
- If three major holidays fall within the assignment period, travelers are expected to work two of them and one holiday RTO request may be submitted for approval
- Major holidays include: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve/New Year's Day
- Travelers must be away from all facilities within this health system for a full year before returning as a travel nurse
- No special scheduling or shift change requests are permitted; the night shift schedule is firm
- Travel pairs may not be assigned to the same shift on the same unit
- Full compliance with onboarding requirements is needed on time; delays may result in a two-week pushback due to a bi-weekly orientation schedule
