Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an ICU Float Pool position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital in Macon, GA, requiring at least 2 years of ICU experience and the ability to float across all critical care units.

Details

  • Float pool position covering all ICU units on the main campus, including CCU, MICU, NICU, CVICU, STICU, and PCU (step-down)
  • Large academic teaching hospital with 637 licensed beds, Level 1 Trauma designation, Chest Pain Center, and Stroke Center
  • ICU units range from 10–20 beds per unit
  • ICU patient ratios: 1:1–2; PCU (step-down) ratios: 1:3–4
  • Manages complex critical care patients including those requiring vasopressors, sedation, cardiac drips, paralytic drips, insulin and heparin drips, trach care, and chest tube management
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7P–7A, 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation: 5–6 shifts per 6-week scheduling cycle
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • Holiday coverage expected for major holidays: Thanksgiving or the day after, Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve or New Year's Day
  • EMR: Epic (experience required)
  • IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis; monitors: Philips; glucose monitoring: Nova Stat Strips
  • Central telemetry monitoring in place; RN strip sign-off required

Requirements

  • Active RN license — GA state or Compact license required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; CCRN preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Proficiency with critical care skills including trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucometer use, and titrating vasoactive and sedation drips
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Must pass an EKG competency exam during onboarding
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Travelers are placed in a float pool capacity and will float to all ICU and Med/Tele units in-house as needed
  • CNAs are available on most units to assist with vitals, blood glucose checks, bathing, turning, and patient safety; unit secretaries are present 7A–11P with house-wide coverage overnight
  • Charge nurses, resource nurses, discharge nurses, RT, hospitalist, and intensivist support available 24/7; PICC team available (no general IV team)
  • Orientation consists of 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
  • RTO requests must be submitted to and approved by the unit manager
  • Scrub color for RNs: Navy
  • Free parking available around campus
  • Unit culture is described as busy and team-oriented
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
