Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an ER Holding (Adult Admission) Unit position at a Level I Trauma, Teaching Hospital in New Mexico, requiring telemetry interpretation skills and a NM or Compact RN license.

Details

• Adult Admission Inpatient Unit (AAU) — a fast-paced holding unit directly adjacent to the Emergency Department
• Unit functions as a bridge between the ED and inpatient placement, initiating inpatient standard of care for admitted patients until beds are available on one of 11 progressive care units
• Patient population is diverse, covering all specialties except ICU-level acuity
• Unit has 17 beds plus up to 8 hall beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4–5
• Charting in Cerner
• Night shift, 4x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
• 48-hour week schedules preferred
• No on-call requirements
• Floating is required: areas include the adjacent ED (for admitted patients), ICU (for SAC assignments), and inpatient PCU areas

Requirements

• Active NM or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) — RQI certifications are not accepted
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Telemetry monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias skills required
• Experience managing dysrhythmias required
• Proficiency managing a variety of medical equipment required
• COVID vaccination required; religious and medical exemptions accepted with a completed exemption form signed by a provider

Additional Information

• Responsible for frequent patient turnover — both admitting patients from the ED and transferring patients out to inpatient units
• Relief charge nurse duties may be required on an as-needed basis
• Facility is a Level I Trauma Center, Children's Hospital, and Academic Teaching Hospital with 554 staffed beds
• Black scrubs required and are not provided by the facility
• Free parking on-site
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible
• RTO requests exceeding 7 days require approval; all time-off requests should be submitted upfront
• Block scheduling will be considered
• Travelers who have worked 4 consecutive assignments or reached the one-year mark require a 6-month break before returning
