Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/Telemetry position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience, with night shift scheduling and a high-acuity mixed medical-surgical and telemetry patient population.

Details

  • Mixed acuity unit caring for both PCU and med-surg/telemetry patients in a 48-bed unit
  • Patient population includes COPD exacerbations, pneumonia, acute respiratory failure, PE, COVID-19, influenza, and patients with chest tubes, CPAP, and BiPAP
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4–5, with potential to reach 1:6 in extreme situations; no nurse is assigned more than one ventilator patient at a time
  • Chronic trach and ventilator patients are cared for on this unit
  • Specialty equipment includes chest tubes, vents, trachs, BiPAP/CPAP, and IV drips including Dopamine, Cardizem, and Heparin
  • EMR system: Epic; also uses Pyxis for medication dispensing
  • Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
  • 4 weekend shifts required per 6-week period; staffing needs may require additional weekend shifts
  • Floating to like units is required
  • Block scheduling can be accommodated when unit needs are met
  • 13-week contract; longer assignments may be available for interested candidates

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • NIHSS certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Proficiency in IV starts, ventilator management, CPAP/BiPAP, telemetry monitoring, and interpretation and management of dysrhythmias required
  • Must pass an EKG competency test prior to start

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates are accepted
  • Unit support resources include a team lead (3:1 rounding), 2 respiratory therapists, assistant nurse manager (including weekends), admission/discharge nurse, vascular access team, RRT, code team, and behavioral health team
  • Orientation is 24 hours
  • Scrubs are not provided; white or navy blue scrubs required
  • RTO is not permitted after booking and cannot be negotiated on-site; call-offs or additional RTO may result in contract cancellation
  • RTO is limited to 7 days maximum for the duration of the assignment
  • Care for COVID-19 positive patients is part of the current patient population
