Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/Pulmonology position at a Level 3 Trauma facility, requiring a minimum of 2 years of PCU experience and an active NC or compact RN license.

Details

  • 28-bed Pulmonology Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within a 457-bed Level 3 Trauma hospital designated as a Stroke Center of Excellence, Bariatric Center of Excellence, and Chest Pain Center
  • Patient population includes acute respiratory failure, COPD, CHF, PE, NSTEMI, CVA, sepsis, GI bleed, Afib/flutter, and ETOH abuse
  • Patient ratios: 1:4 (progressive) and 1:5 (medical)
  • Specialized skills include BiPAP, Optiflow/high-flow oxygen, home vent care, trach care, chest tube management, Pleurx drains, ostomy care, wound vac care, post-pacemaker care, TR band post-heart cath, PIV starts, blood draws, and IV medication drip management (Heparin, Diltiazem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Labetalol, Lidocaine, Milrinone, Nesiritide, Cardene, Nitroglycerin, Phenobarbital)
  • EMR: Epic (experience preferred)
  • Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell med dispensing, Philips hardwire and remote monitors, Lifepak, bladder scanners, EKG machines, portable monitors, Hoyer lift, and dopplers
  • Shift: 12-hour nights, 1900–0700, 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • Floating within Region 1 (Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division facilities) within scope of practice

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of PCU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Proficiency with specialized respiratory and cardiac equipment and drip medication management required
  • Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
  • One professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN, required for consideration
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

  • Unit culture is focused on quality patient care through communication and teamwork
  • CNA support available for vital signs, blood sugars, ADLs, Foley placement, and lab draws
  • HUC/Receptionist support available Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–3:00 PM
  • Free charge nurse, Hospitalist, and Intensivist available 24/7
  • Respiratory therapy available 24/7 (2 on days, 1 on nights, dedicated to the unit)
  • IV/VAT team and telemetry monitoring tech available on unit
  • Orientation includes facility NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates who have previously worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
