Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a MS/Tele/PCU Float Pool position at an acute care hospital in Arizona, requiring at least 2 years of RN experience and PCU setting experience with drip titration skills.
Details
- Float pool covers MedSurg Tele and PCU units across two campuses, including inpatients holding in the ED
- West campus Stepdown unit has 14 rooms (double occupancy) with an average census of 20; West MedTele has 95 beds divided into 4 areas; East campus is smaller with ICU and stepdown patients in a 10-bed double occupancy unit
- Patient population includes geriatric, orthopedic, post-procedural cardiac patients, post-MI, post-cardiac cath, and CABG post-op day 3-4
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: PCU 1:4, MedSurg Tele 1:5-6
- RNs are required to titrate drips including Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Insulin
- Respiratory equipment includes CPAP/BiPAP in MedSurg and BiPAP, CPAP, and heated high-flow in PCU
- Monitor techs cover PCU and MedSurg Tele; RNs must be able to independently interpret cardiac rhythm strips
- Charge nurses are present on each unit and do not take patient assignments; nurse aides are utilized in all settings
- Charting is done in Cerner
- 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a), every other weekend required
- Travelers are first to float; unit assignments are communicated by text message approximately 2 hours before shift start
- Travel between campuses is approximately 20–25 minutes
- No on-call or standby requirement
Requirements
- Active AZ or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- At least 1 year of experience in a PCU setting required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications are not accepted
- Proficiency titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips is required
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (permanent address as shown on driver's license is used to verify)
- Candidates may not have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year (candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered)
- A driver's license must be provided for consideration
- Two professional references are required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
- Orientation consists of an 8-hour general hospital orientation day, followed by a 12-hour shift at West MedTele and a 12-hour shift at West PCU
- Candidates must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) with a score of at least 80% within two attempts before an offer can be confirmed
- A pass/fail sterile technique test covering Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes is administered on the first day of orientation
- Travelers are included in the permanent staff holiday rotation
- Schedule is published 6 weeks out covering 4-week blocks; night shift will attempt to accommodate block scheduling requests, but travelers must remain flexible
- Scrub color is currently solid professional colors; transitioning to navy scrubs in October per updated dress code guidelines
- Travelers who fail the Relias Dysrhythmia exam or sterile technique test on the second attempt will be ineligible for CommonSpirit Arizona positions for 6 months

Cons
Cost of living is High, roughly $2000-2500 for your own private space. Float between East and West Campus, 25 minutes apart, west will likely be where you spend 75% of your shifts so pick your housing accordingly.
