Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Stepdown (Intermediate) position in St. Louis, MO, requiring at least 1 year of stepdown experience with trach/vent proficiency on a 12-hour night shift schedule.
Details
- Work on a 22-bed Med/Surg Intermediate (Stepdown) unit in an inpatient hospital setting
- Patient population includes respiratory failure, ETOH, overdose, GI bleed, electrolyte imbalance, COPD, and cancer diagnoses
- Respiratory-heavy unit with frequent use of tracheostomy, ventilator, vapotherm (VAPO), and BiPAP equipment
- Patient ratio is 1:3–4
- EMR is Epic
- Night shift schedule: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required as needed to a similar or lower acuity unit
- 13-week assignment
Requirements
- Active RN license valid in Missouri (MO state license or compact license meeting MO eligibility criteria) required at time of consideration
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association (AHA) required — no expiring certifications within the first 30 days of assignment unless renewal documentation is provided
- Minimum 1 year of recent inpatient stepdown experience required
- Trach and vent experience required
- Valid U.S. Social Security Number required (Canadian SINs not accepted)
- No employment gaps of 90+ days within the past 12 months
Additional Information
- Performs direct patient care including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation across all age groups
- Coordinates patient care activities with ancillary departments to optimize patient outcomes
- Physical demands include standing and walking most of the shift, significant bending, stooping, lifting, and turning patients with assistance; ability to push, pull, and grip up to 50 lbs. and pinch up to 15 lbs.
- High-risk exposure to blood and body fluids
- Night shift orientation takes place on day shift — traveler must be available the full orientation week
- Black scrubs required
- The facility is a Level 2 Trauma Center, Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Center, and Level 1 STEMI Center
- Flu vaccination (or Mercy-approved exemption) is required for travelers working between November 1 and April 1 — declinations are not accepted
- RTO of up to 5 days is allowed but must be made up during the assignment; only 1 holiday RTO request is permitted per assignment
- Candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are eligible but are subject to a reduced bill rate
