Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Stepdown (Intermediate) position in St. Louis, MO, requiring at least 1 year of stepdown experience with trach/vent proficiency on a 12-hour night shift schedule.

Details

• Work on a 22-bed Med/Surg Intermediate (Stepdown) unit in an inpatient hospital setting
• Patient population includes respiratory failure, ETOH, overdose, GI bleed, electrolyte imbalance, COPD, and cancer diagnoses
• Respiratory-heavy unit with frequent use of tracheostomy, ventilator, vapotherm (VAPO), and BiPAP equipment
• Patient ratio is 1:3–4
• EMR is Epic
• Night shift schedule: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required as needed to a similar or lower acuity unit
• 13-week assignment

Requirements

• Active RN license valid in Missouri (MO state license or compact license meeting MO eligibility criteria) required at time of consideration
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association (AHA) required — no expiring certifications within the first 30 days of assignment unless renewal documentation is provided
• Minimum 1 year of recent inpatient stepdown experience required
• Trach and vent experience required
• Valid U.S. Social Security Number required (Canadian SINs not accepted)
• No employment gaps of 90+ days within the past 12 months

Additional Information

• Performs direct patient care including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation across all age groups
• Coordinates patient care activities with ancillary departments to optimize patient outcomes
• Physical demands include standing and walking most of the shift, significant bending, stooping, lifting, and turning patients with assistance; ability to push, pull, and grip up to 50 lbs. and pinch up to 15 lbs.
• High-risk exposure to blood and body fluids
• Night shift orientation takes place on day shift — traveler must be available the full orientation week
• Black scrubs required
• The facility is a Level 2 Trauma Center, Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Center, and Level 1 STEMI Center
• Flu vaccination (or Mercy-approved exemption) is required for travelers working between November 1 and April 1 — declinations are not accepted
• RTO of up to 5 days is allowed but must be made up during the assignment; only 1 holiday RTO request is permitted per assignment
• Candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are eligible but are subject to a reduced bill rate
