Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Inpatient position at an acute care facility in New Mexico, requiring at least 3 years of MS/Tele experience and the ability to work in a PCU-level environment.

Details

• Acute care inpatient setting with a 26-bed Med/Surg unit
• Patient population includes medical, surgical, and PCU-level patients; nurses may be called upon to rotate into the PCU area where patients can be critically ill and on drips or invasive monitors
• No ICU on-site; critical patients requiring higher-level care are transferred out
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3–5
• CNAs on the unit at a ratio of 1:8, handling vitals, ADLs, I/Os, transfers, transports, and showers
• Respiratory therapy available in-house 24/7 (day shift RT dedicated to unit; one RT in-house overnight); unit manages BiPAP/CPAP and all respiratory equipment
• Telemetry monitoring via Mindray cardiac monitors; nurses must independently read and interpret tele strips
• RNs required to titrate drips including insulin, amiodarone, and norepinephrine (Levophed), with multiple drip protocols in use
• Charge nurse carries a reduced patient assignment; travelers are not expected to take the charge role
• Night shift, 12-hour shifts (7p–7a)
• Every-other-weekend requirement
• May be included in holiday rotation
• No on-call or standby requirement
• No floating requirement for RNs
• EMR: TruBridge – Evident (also referenced as CPSI)
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active NM or Compact RN license required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 3 years of Med/Surg Telemetry (MS/Tele) experience required
• PCU or step-down experience preferred
• LTAC experience a plus
• Ability to titrate drips (insulin, amiodarone, vasopressors) required
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips required
• Airway management and intubation maintenance skills preferred
• BSN not required

Additional Information

• Mandatory online modules must be completed prior to starting on the floor; modules take approximately 20 hours to complete and will be assigned via email before the start of the assignment
• Unit orientation is 1–2 days with a preceptor depending on individual needs
• Travelers are expected to be flexible with scheduling to help fill gaps in permanent staff schedules; block scheduling is not guaranteed
• Navy blue scrubs required

• This small community hospital offers a broader clinical scope than its size might suggest and is currently working toward Level IV Trauma designation
