Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Tele/Swing unit at a Critical Access Hospital, requiring telemetry experience and the ability to rotate day and night shifts every other weekend.

Details

• Acute care setting at a Critical Access Hospital (CAH)
• Med-Tele Acute/Obs and Swing Bed unit with 19 beds
• Patient population includes acute and swing bed patients with diagnoses such as pneumonia, COPD, CHF, pancreatitis, and GI bleed
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3–6
• One CNA per shift assists with personal care, vitals, and weights
• RT equipment in use includes ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC); RNs are expected to set up and demonstrate competency with BiPAP, CPAP, and HFNC
• RNs are required to read and interpret their own telemetry strips; Mindray monitors are used
• Charting performed in MEDITECH
• 12-hour shifts rotating days (7a–7p) and nights (7p–7a)
• Every other weekend required
• Every other holiday required
• Travelers are first to float within the Med-Tele Acute/Obs/Swing Bed unit
• No on-call or standby requirement
• No charge nurse on each shift; team scheduling in place

Requirements

• Active ND or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications are not accepted
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Medical/surgical and telemetry unit experience required
• Proficiency with IV starts, NG tube management, and Foley catheter insertion required
• Competency with BiPAP, CPAP, and HFNC setup required
• Ability to independently read and interpret telemetry strips required
• Driver's license required for consideration
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

• RNs may participate as part of the code team
• Orientation typically consists of 3–4 twelve-hour shifts
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
• Candidates may not have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI or Dignity) within the past year; candidates placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
• RTO requests of 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
• Scrubs in any color are acceptable; candidates must provide their own
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
