Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position in Charlotte, NC, requiring at least 18 months of PCU experience and a NC or compact RN license.
Details
- 36-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at a non-trauma, non-teaching hospital designated as both a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
- Patient population includes COPD/pulmonary diseases, heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias, renal failure, sepsis, ETOH/CIWA and IVDA, tracheostomies requiring mechanical ventilation, continuous BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, hypothermia regulation, and titratable IV drips
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:3–4; CNA-to-patient ratio of 1:9
- 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips
- Floating required within Region 2 (Pineville, Anson, Union, Union West, and Central Division including CMC Main, CMC Mercy, and Levine Children's Hospital) per regional needs — candidates who are not agreeable to floating to all listed facilities should not apply
- No on-call responsibilities
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 18 months of PCU experience, with most recent experience within the last year
- Experience with tracheostomy/ventilator-dependent patients required
- Proficiency in cardiac drip management, cardiac rhythm interpretation, temporary/transvenous pacemaker, chest tubes, trach care, blood product administration, and wound care/dressing changes
- Epic EMR experience required
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- Unit support includes CNAs, a charge nurse, virtual nursing (assists with admissions/discharges, virtual patient observation, and RN witness sign-off for select medications), 24/7 phlebotomy, 24/7 IV/VAT team, a unit-dedicated pharmacist, two case managers, a MedSurg Clinical Nurse Specialist, 24/7 respiratory therapy, a nurse educator, 24/7 hospitalist, and intensivist coverage until midnight with virtual/on-call critical care MD overnight
- No remote telemetry monitoring — charge nurses, clinical supervisors, and staff are responsible for reading and posting telemetry every shift
- Orientation includes facility NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Required scrub color for RNs: Navy Blue
