Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Interventional Radiology position at a Level II Trauma Center in Montgomery, AL, requiring ACLS, NIHSS, and ICU/moderate sedation skills.

Details

  • Works in the Interventional Radiology unit of a 492-bed Level II Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center with a Level III NICU
  • Unit consists of 7 pre/post bays and 2 procedural suites
  • Serves both outpatient and inpatient populations with procedures including biopsies, UFEs, kyphoplasties, port placements, diagnostic angiograms, interventional arterial and venous procedures, IVC placement, venous and neurological thrombectomies, coilings, aneurysm rupture repair, paracentesis, and thoracentesis
  • Patient ratios are 1:1 in procedure rooms and up to 1:3 in the pre/post area
  • EMR: Cerner (Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Spacelabs monitors)
  • Unit operates for routine procedures Monday–Friday, 6:30 AM–4:30 PM, and is available for emergencies 24/7
  • Two available shift types: four 10-hour shifts per week (0630–1630, rotating day off) or three 12-hour shifts per week (rotating days off)
  • On-call requirements are staffing-dependent but typically include every 4th weekend and one night per week
  • Floating may occur to other procedural areas where skillset applies (e.g., cath lab pre/post area)

Requirements

  • Active AL RN license or compact RN license required (can submit pending with ETA)
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 1 year of Interventional Radiology experience required; first-time travelers must have at least 2 years of experience
  • Required skills: ICU care, moderate sedation, arterial line management, medication titration, and chest tube management
  • Cerner EMR experience strongly beneficial
  • Candidates must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • SSN, DOB (day and month), copy of certifications, and one reference from a charge nurse or above within the past 12 months required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provides nursing care across both procedural suites and pre/post bays, supporting a wide range of interventional and neuro procedures
  • Charge nurse support available on the unit
  • Orientation consists of approximately 2 shifts on the unit and 1–2 shifts in education/onboarding
  • Scrubs: any color accepted; green scrubs provided when working in the procedure room
  • Holiday coverage is shared equally between core and travel staff — each staff member covers one winter holiday (Christmas, Thanksgiving, or New Year's) and one summer holiday (July 4th, Memorial Day, or Labor Day)
  • Time off requests are approved by the manager
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply with at least 2 years of IR experience
  • Former permanent staff must wait 6 months before being considered as a traveler
  • An interview is required prior to any offer; this facility does not use auto offers
