Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in a Comprehensive Cancer Center at a Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center in Winston-Salem, NC, requiring at least 1 year of experience and an active NC or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in a 40-bed Comprehensive Cancer Center unit within a 885-bed Level 1 Trauma academic medical center
  • Patient population includes hematology and oncology, leukemia, symptom management, and comfort care/end-of-life patients
  • Average daily census of 34 patients
  • RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4–5, acuity dependent; CNA support at 1:9–12
  • Specialized procedures include port access, blood product administration, electrolyte management, EOL care, pain/symptom management, PIV starts, and cardiac rhythm interpretation
  • Telemetry monitoring managed via a centralized telemetry unit; RNs verify strips each shift
  • EMR: Epic (experience required); IV pumps: Alaris; med dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips
  • 12-hour night shifts, 1830–0700 start time, 36 hours per week
  • Every-other-weekend rotation required
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Floating within the cancer center first, then to any med-surg unit within the hospital as needed

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • ONS and OCN certification preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg or Telemetry experience required; Oncology experience preferred
  • Most recent experience must be within the last year
  • Experience at a Level 1 Trauma or academic teaching hospital preferred
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Unit support includes CNAs (vitals, ADLs), a receptionist/HUC (7am–11pm daily), designated charge nurses, phlebotomy rounding each shift, an IV/VAT team on day shift, and RT and hospitalist coverage available 24/7
  • Orientation includes facility NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
  • RTO of up to 7 days allowed; extension required for additional time off
  • Scrubs: Royal Blue required
  • Free on-site parking available
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • Must be separated from any Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position before being considered
