Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Neuro position at an acute care hospital in Decatur, IL, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and an active IL RN license.

Details

• Work in the Med/Surg Neuro unit of a 372-bed acute care hospital
• Level II Trauma Center and teaching hospital environment
• Neurological patient population including CVA, pre/post neuro surgery, spinal cord injuries, and traumatic brain injuries
• Average daily census of 32 patients
• Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (18:00–06:30)
• Every other weekend required
• Floating required within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate hospital
• No on-call requirements
• Charting via Cerner (experience required)
• Specialized skills utilized include telemetry remote monitoring, rapid response team protocols, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, tracheostomy management, continuous bladder irrigation, wound care/wound vac, surgical drain management, colostomy care, feeding tube care, PICC line and central line management, accessing ports, blood product administration, and PCA/Heparin/Insulin medication management

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• Current BLS certification required (AHA or Red Cross accepted; RQI AHA cards not accepted)
• Current NIHSS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg nursing experience required
• Cerner EMR experience required
• Proficiency in telemetry (remote monitoring) and rapid response team protocols required
• Experience with neurological cases including CVA, pre/post neuro surgery, spinal cord injuries, and TBI required
• Experience with respiratory management including chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, tracheostomy, and non-invasive airway required
• Experience with IV therapy including PICC lines, central line blood draws, port access, and peripheral line management required
• Experience with surgical drains, wound care/wound vac, and continuous bladder irrigation required
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Level II Trauma experience preferred
• SSN and DOB required for consideration

Additional Information

• 13-week contract
• Local candidates are accepted with no radius restriction
• First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
• RTO of up to 5 days is available; requests exceeding 5 days require facility approval
• Candidates must be prepared to work 2 out of 3 major holidays during the assignment
• Travel pairs are not accepted
• Former permanent or PRN employees of the Memorial Hospital System must have been separated for at least 12 months before applying as a traveler
• Royal blue scrubs required
• Free parking is available on-site with a permit obtained during orientation
• 2 professional supervisory references from within the past 2 years required
