Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience including direct Med/Surg experience, with a strong focus on neuro patient care.

Details

• Hospital-based Med/Surg Telemetry unit with a 42-bed daily census and 43 rooms/beds
• Primary patient population includes stroke, neurosurgery, epilepsy, traumatic and non-traumatic subdural hematomas, and other neurological diagnoses
• Unit includes a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), though travelers are not typically assigned there unless trained
• Patient ratio is 1:6
• 12-hour day shifts, 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM (3x12)
• Schedule options of 36 or 48 hours per week available
• Every other weekend shift required
• Floating required to other Med/Surg Telemetry areas, which may include COVID care units
• EMR system: Epic; medication dispensing via Pyxis; communication via SBAR

Requirements

• Active NC or Compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience, including at least 1 year of direct Med/Surg experience
• Must have at least 2 prior completed travel contracts — first-time travelers will not be considered
• Required certifications: BLS and NIHSS
• NIH Stroke Scale certification required
• ACLS preferred but not required
• Proficient IV start skills required
• Telemetry experience required, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Med/Surg neuro experience required
• Must pass an EKG test prior to start

Additional Information

• 36-hour unit orientation provided
• Local candidates are accepted
• RTO is not permitted after booking and cannot be arranged onsite — call-offs or additional RTO may result in contract cancellation
• Missed weekend shifts must be made up based on unit needs; missed shifts are generally expected to be made up the same week or at the end of the contract
• If RTO includes weekends, additional time will be added to the end of the contract to account for those dates
• Block scheduling cannot always be accommodated
• Navy scrubs required; scrubs are not provided by the facility
