Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg position at a Critical Access Hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience, night shift availability, and active ND or Compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Acute care Med/Surg unit at a Critical Access Hospital (CAH)
  • 20-bed unit serving a general medical-surgical patient population including falls, CHF, bowel obstruction, A-fib, and swing bed patients
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5
  • Nurses are required to manage respiratory equipment (Hamilton C1 ventilator, CPAP, BiPap, high-flow) and administer respiratory treatments — no dedicated RT on unit
  • Nurses read and document telemetry strips each shift using Mindray monitors (x8); no monitor techs on unit
  • Titratable drips include insulin, heparin, and Levophed; set-rate drips include amiodarone
  • Charting via MEDITECH
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a), with day shift (7a–7p) rotation possible
  • Every 3rd weekend requirement, with additional weekend shifts available if desired
  • Holiday rotation — candidates who can work holidays are strongly preferred
  • No on-call requirement
  • Floating to the ER may be required; travelers are not the first to float but flexibility is appreciated
  • Schedule is manager-directed and posted 6 weeks in advance; block scheduling may be available based on staffing needs

Requirements

  • Active ND or Compact (NLC) RN license required — pending licenses are not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Active certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and PALS (AHA) — pending certifications are not accepted
  • TNCC required if candidate has ER experience and will float to the ER
  • Proficiency in core nursing skills: patient assessment, infusion pump operation, medication administration, and respiratory equipment management
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and reliability are essential in this close-knit CAH environment
  • A driver's license is required for consideration
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • BSN not required

Additional Information

  • CNAs and PCTs are present on the unit and assist with vital signs, charting, I&Os, and ADLs
  • A charge nurse is available 24/7 and does not take a patient assignment, as they also cover the ER; a nursing supervisor is available Monday–Friday
  • Unit orientation is approximately 3–6 shifts, depending on staff availability
  • Experience in a Critical Access Hospital setting is appreciated, as staff are expected to be versatile and cross-functional across departments
  • ER experience is preferred but not required
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit or CHI/Dignity Health facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates previously employed PRN through outside firms will be considered
  • No specific scrub color requirement
