Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced OR RN for a 13-week travel contract at a Critical Access Hospital in West Virginia, requiring 3+ years of OR experience and AHA certifications including ACLS, BLS, and PALS.

Details

• Acute care setting at a Critical Access Hospital (CAH)
• Operating room unit with 3 OR suites and 1 procedure room; all patients flow through the same pre-op area
• High-volume caseload with 6–22 cases per day depending on the day of the week
• Diverse surgical case mix including total joint replacements (hip, knee, shoulder), sports medicine, orthopedic trauma, general surgery, OB/GYN (C-sections, hysterectomies), urology, plastics, ENT, and ophthalmology (cataracts); approximately 40% endoscopic/scope cases
• ROSA robotic surgery system used for total joint procedures
• 1:1 patient ratio with typically 2 OR techs per room
• EMR: Epic (experience required)
• Phillips telemetry system; ventilators on unit; Pyxis medication dispensing system
• Charge nurse available 24/7; OR techs on staff
• Schedule: four 10-hour shifts per day, Monday–Friday, 6:45 AM–5:15 PM; OR is closed on holidays and weekends except for call
• On-call required: approximately 3–4 call shifts per month; call shifts are 7 AM–7 PM Mon–Fri and 24-hour shifts on Saturdays and Sundays; weekend call rotates approximately every 7–8 weeks
• 30-minute call response time; must be dressed and ready to work within 30 minutes
• Weekend rotation approximately every 6–7 weeks
• Scrubs are provided by the facility
• Travelers are not required to float

Requirements

• Active WV RN license or a Compact RN license currently in hand
• Current AHA certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and PALS
• Minimum 3 years of OR nursing experience required
• Experience in a similar OR setting strongly preferred
• Epic EMR experience required
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
• Two supervisor/peer references required (at least 1 supervisor reference; if permanent employment within the last 12 months, one reference must be from that employer)
• Valid driver's license required
• COVID-19 vaccination required; medical or religious exemption requests must be submitted promptly for review

Additional Information

• Scrubbing is not required for RN candidates
• Orientation consists of 3 shifts with a preceptor in the OR following general hospital orientation
• Holidays are covered via call rotation rather than scheduled shifts
• Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before being considered; this includes both former permanent staff and travelers
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year before taking a 2-year break
• Blocked scheduling requests will not be approved
• First-time travelers will be considered provided they have strong experience in a comparable OR setting
