Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a PACU position in an acute care hospital setting, requiring 2+ years of PACU experience and active WV or compact RN license with ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications.

Details

• PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit) in an acute care hospital setting
• Unit includes 9 PACU bays (Phase 1) and 16 Same-Day Surgery (SDS) bays (Phase 2)
• Recovers all surgical cases except open heart surgery; craniotomy patients remain in the PACU post-op
• Patient ratios: 1:2 in Phase 1 PACU and 1:5 in Phase 2 (SDS)
• Uses Epic EMR
• Philips central monitors in PACU/SDS; RNs read telemetry strips, anesthesia interprets; no monitor techs
• Ventilators used occasionally in PACU, along with BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow oxygen; RT is in-house 24/7
• Titration of vasopressors and sedatives performed in PACU
• 12-hour shifts with varied start times (primarily day/evening); shift windows approximately 0900–0930 start
• On-call required: 4–6 call shifts per 4-week period on weeknights (8p–8a), plus one weekend call shift per month (either Saturday or Sunday, not both), from 8a–8a
• No floating required
• No self-scheduling for travelers; block scheduling may be accommodated based on unit needs
• Charge nurse coverage available 7a–7p daily
• Hospitalist in-house 24/7; pharmacy in-house 24/7 with Omnicell

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Required certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and PALS (AHA)
• Minimum 2–3 years of PACU experience required
• Minimum 2–3 prior travel assignments required
• Ortho/neuro PACU experience preferred
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• BSN not required
• Valid driver's license required for consideration
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility

Additional Information

• 3-shift unit-specific orientation provided
• Navy blue scrubs required; scrubs are not provided
• No holiday coverage required
• ICU patients are held in PACU for up to 1 hour during standard M–F 8a–4p hours; after hours, ICU patients go directly to the ICU (exception: craniotomy patients remain in PACU)
• Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before being considered
• Candidates who have worked at a WVU facility for a cumulative total of one year must take a 2-year break before returning
• First-time travelers are not eligible for this position; prior travel experience is required
