Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Transplant/Abdominal Inpatient Telemetry position at a Magnet-designated Level III Trauma Center in Milwaukee, WI, requiring at least 2 years of telemetry experience.

- Inpatient telemetry unit specializing in abdominal transplant care at a 933-bed, Magnet-designated, Level III Trauma Center in Milwaukee, WI
- 26-bed unit serving adult medical and telemetry patients, including liver and kidney transplant recipients
- Night shift schedule, 12-hour shifts (7PM–7AM), 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation of 24 hours per 6-week scheduling cycle
- No on-call requirements
- Travelers float first, within scope of practice; ED inpatient boarding float assignments carry a 1:4 patient ratio
- Night shift patient ratios: RN 1:5–7, CNA 1:6–8
- EMR: Epic (experience required); IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis; monitors: GE
- Centralized telemetry monitoring with telemetry techs; cardiac rhythm interpretation and documentation required at minimum twice per shift
Requirements
- Active WI or Compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS certification required; ACLS is not required
- Minimum 2 years of telemetry experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Experience caring for surgical patients, including assessment, tube feedings, NG tube insertion, and blood product administration
- Cardiac rhythm interpretation skills required
- Experience with titratable drips (heparin, insulin, Cardizem) preferred; candidates without drip experience must be comfortable learning and managing these independently
- Epic EMR experience required
- Strong critical thinking and time management skills required
- At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide inpatient nursing care to adult telemetry and post-transplant (liver and kidney) patients
- Pain assessment documentation required before and after medication administration (within 1 hour for oral medications), with clinical judgment expected to match medication selection to documented pain score
- Departmental support includes a charge RN with reduced load, ICU-trained resource RN available 24/7, CNA, HUC, phlebotomy, respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist all available around the clock
- AM and PM unit leadership present Monday through Friday
- Orientation consists of 1 shift to learn unit flow
- Schedules are managed in 6-week increments; up to 7 days of RTO may be approved per contract
- Holiday coverage required as needed per unit
- Any solid-color scrubs are acceptable
- Free parking available on site
- First-time travelers are considered on a case-by-case basis
- Candidates from the South Wisconsin patient service area are not eligible for this position
