  • CNAs are available on the unit with ratios of approximately 1:10–12
  • RNs must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips independently; Nihon Kohden monitors are used
  • RNs must be able to titrate drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Labetalol, Nitroglycerin, Heparin, and occasionally Lasix
  • Charting is performed in Allscripts (Sunrise EMR)
  • 12-hour day/night rotating shifts; shift start time is 7:00 AM or 7:00 PM with required unit readiness by 6:45 AM/PM
  • Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule (days or nights); those on a day schedule must also work a minimum of 3 night shifts per 4-week schedule
  • Floating is required into Telemetry or Med/Surg units (ratios up to 1:6, occasionally 1:7 in Med/Surg) and to the Pandemic Unit as needed
  • Self-scheduling is available provided unit needs are met; up to 4 requested days off per month are allowed
  • Support services on-site 24/7 include: IV team (handles all IV starts), PICC/Midline team, Respiratory Therapy, Pharmacy (Pyxis), Hospitalist, Intensivist (in ICU), and Residents

Requirements

  • Active WV RN license or compact RN license required
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Stepdown, IMU, or PCU experience required
  • Proficiency with telemetry strip reading and interpretation required
  • Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips required
  • Allscripts/Sunrise EMR experience preferred
  • A copy of an unexpired driver's license is required for consideration
  • Any licensing hits or disciplinary actions must be disclosed
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN); if the candidate held a permanent position within the last 12 months, one supervisor reference must be from that facility
  • Skills checklist completed within the past year required
  • Copies of all certifications required

Additional Information

  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this travel position
  • Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before being considered; cumulative travel experience within the WVU system applies, and travelers may not exceed one cumulative year before a 2-year break is required
  • Orientation consists of approximately 4 hours with HR on day one, followed by the remaining time and day two on the unit with a preceptor; independent practice begins after day two
  • EKG testing may be required as part of the onboarding process for this stepdown unit
  • Holiday flexibility is expected, though travelers are not typically required to work many holidays as permanent staff generally provide coverage
  • RN scrub requirement: navy blue top and bottom with navy scrub jacket; hoodies are not permitted
  • Respiratory equipment (AirVo high-flow, Respironics BiPAP) is managed exclusively by Respiratory Therapy
  • Charge nurses carry a full patient assignment on both day and night shifts
  • Attendance expectations are strict; any tardiness or call-off counts as an occurrence, and two occurrences may result in termination; any emergency must be reported through proper channels more than 2 hours before the shift
