Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Interventional Radiology position at a Level II Trauma hospital in Walnut Creek, CA, requiring a CA RN license and a minimum of 3 years of critical care or medical imaging/IR experience.
Details
- Work setting is a 554-bed Level II Trauma hospital (not a teaching facility) in Walnut Creek, CA
- Unit includes 1 CT scanner and 2 nursing bays for paracentesis within the Diagnostic Imaging department
- Patient population spans pediatric to geriatric ages, including cirrhosis/ascites patients requiring paracentesis, post-surgical patients requiring abscess drainage, and patients requiring chest tube management
- Procedures include starting IVs, managing access ports, monitoring VS and tidal CO2, setting up trays/sterile fields, administering moderate sedation, placing Foley catheters, managing chest tubes and drains, administering IV medications, and assisting with paracenteses and CT biopsies
- Equipment includes Philips monitors, gravity flow IV, and respiratory support; 24/7 anesthesia support is available
- EMR is Epic (experience preferred); Pyxis medication system in use
- Shift hours are 8-hour days, with start times of either 0700–1530 or 0830–1700
- Schedule is 32 or 40 hours per week
- No floating and no on-call requirements
- 13-week assignment
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; PALS preferred
- Minimum 3 years of total critical care or medical imaging/IR RN experience required; 2 years in the IR specialty preferred
- Training and proficiency in patient recovery as well as IR cath lab procedures required
- Proficiency with conscious/moderate sedation required
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Two clinical references required from the last two places of employment, covering the last year, from individuals in a leadership role (Nurse Manager, Director, or Charge Nurse)
Additional Information
- RN will work across multiple imaging modalities, assisting with IR procedures including paracenteses and CT biopsies
- RN is responsible for administering and monitoring patients under moderate sedation, managing IV access and ports, and overseeing drainage devices including chest tubes and wound dressings
- 24/7 anesthesia support is available on the unit
- Previous travel experience preferred
- First-time travelers may be considered but prior travel experience is preferred
