Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery & Postpartum) position requiring intermediate fetal monitoring certification and the ability to float to Med/Surg and the ER.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting in an LDRP unit with 7 L&D beds and 8 postpartum beds
• One OR suite on the unit for C-sections, averaging approximately 58 births per month
• Patient population includes obstetric and neonatal patients with common diagnoses including hypertension, gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), and general antepartum/postpartum care
• Staffing ratios follow AWHONN guidelines: 1:1 for pitocin, magnesium, or insulin drips; 1:3 for couplet care
• RNs are required to titrate drips including pitocin, insulin, and magnesium
• RNs are required to independently read and interpret their own fetal monitor strips
• Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) system: TraceView/PIP; telemetry monitors: Philips
• EMR: MEDITECH (experience preferred)
• Night shift position with 12-hour shifts; shift times are 6:45 PM–7:15 AM or 6:45 AM–7:15 PM
• Every other weekend required
• Every other holiday required
• Call or standby requirement depending on staffing needs
• Float requirement to Med/Surg and ER as needed; permanent staff floats before travelers
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active ND RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license, must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
• Required certifications: BLS, Intermediate Fetal Monitoring — all must be active; pending certifications not accepted
• Preferred certifications: ACLS, NRP, STABLE
• Minimum 2 years of L&D/LDRP RN experience required
• Ability to read and interpret fetal monitor strips independently
• Experience titrating drips (pitocin, insulin, magnesium) required
• Prior travel nursing experience preferred
• Strong critical thinking skills and ability to float within skillset (Med/Surg, ER)
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Valid driver's license required for consideration
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health–affiliated facility within the past 12 months (candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered)

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include caring for laboring, delivering, recovering, and postpartum patients including couplet care and neonatal patients
• RNs are expected to follow AWHONN guidelines and facility quality metrics
• A charge nurse is present on every shift and takes a patient assignment
• CNAs are available on the unit to assist with vitals, transfer paperwork, patient turning, and ambulation
• This is a locked unit; CNAs also assist with desk coverage as needed
• OB/neonatologist and anesthesia are not in-house 24/7
• RT equipment (vents, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow) is present on the unit; RNs are not required to do more than troubleshoot RT equipment
• No self-scheduling; block scheduling is available
• Unit-specific orientation consists of 3 shifts
• Scrubs are provided by the facility; RNs will change into maroon surgical scrubs upon arriving to the unit
• Successful travelers on this unit are adaptive to change, strong critical thinkers, and effective communicators
• All RTO must be requested upfront; additional RTO will not be approved after consideration
