Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical ICU position requiring Epic proficiency and at least 1 year of ICU experience, working night shifts on a 12-week contract.
Details
- Medical Surgical ICU in a hospital setting with 15 beds, 13 rooms, and an average daily census of 12
- Adult to geriatric patient population managing complex diagnoses including sepsis/septic shock, respiratory failure, post-cardiac arrest, GI bleed/hemorrhagic shock, DKA, acute kidney disease, pulmonary edema/embolus, drug overdose, hypertensive emergencies, cardiac arrhythmias, rhabdomyolysis, metabolic encephalopathy, and malignant neoplasms
- Patient ratio of 1:2–3
- Specialized procedures and therapies include CRRT, TTM, chest tubes, bronchoscopies, lumbar punctures, I&Ds, central and arterial line insertion/maintenance, peritoneal dialysis, continuous bladder irrigation, and continuous IV infusions (pressors, paralytics, sedatives, cardiac drips)
- EMR: Epic (required); also uses Pyxis and SBAR communication framework
- Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:00
- Every other weekend required
- Floating within the facility and scope of practice as needed
- No on-call requirements
- 12-week contract
Requirements
- Active GA or Compact RN license required and must be in hand at time of consideration
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of ICU experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Epic proficiency required
- Experience with ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, and ETT/NT suctioning
- Experience with arterial line and central line care/management, IV insulin protocols, blood product administration, and vasoactive/cardiac drip titration
- Experience managing patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
- Two supervisory references (manager level or above; charge nurses not accepted) are highly preferred for consideration
- Candidates who have previously worked at any facility within this health system must have been away for a full year before being eligible to return as a traveler
Additional Information
- Navy blue scrubs required
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Previous charge nurse experience is preferred
- Neuro ICU and Surgical ICU experience are preferred
- RTO maximum of 7 days; RTO cannot be requested during the first week of the assignment
- Spring Break (April 4–12) is an RTO blackout period
- Holiday coverage policy: if 1 or 2 major holidays fall within the assignment period, the traveler is expected to work all of them and no holiday RTO will be approved; if 3 major holidays fall within the assignment period, the traveler is expected to work 2, and one holiday RTO request may be reviewed for approval
- Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve/New Year's Day
- Local candidates are accepted
- The shift and schedule listed are firm — no alternate shift or schedule requests are permitted
