Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience, with nights, telemetry skills, and a dysrhythmia exam requirement.
Details
- Acute care stepdown/PCU setting serving cardiovascular and surgical patient populations
- Patients include post-cath lab, post-open heart surgery (2-3 days), STEMI/NSTEMI, chronic vents, alcohol withdrawal, suicidal ideation, new BiPAP/CPAP, thoracotomies, and renal disease
- Hospitalists serve PCU patients under the Critical Care service line
- Unit has 14 beds with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3-4 depending on acuity
- Equipment includes Philips Cardiac Monitors, telemetry, Welch Allyn Vital Signs Monitors, invasive monitoring, Medtronic Pacemakers, Pyxis med dispenser, Zoll R series, Sigma Spectrum IV pumps, and Mistral Air Warming units
- Charting via Cerner EMR
- 12-hour night shifts (7P-7A), 3 shifts per week
- Two weekend shifts required per pay period
- Travelers are first to float; floating to ICU is preferred and to MS/Tele is required
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required; minimum 1 year of PCU experience required
- Strong EKG/dysrhythmia knowledge and IV cardiac medication administration skills required
- Experience with peritoneal dialysis, chronic vents, chest tubes, epidural catheters, PCA pumps, transvenous pacing, and arterial/venous sheath pulling and care
- Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam with a score of 80% or higher within two attempts prior to contract confirmation
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (permanent address per driver's license is used to verify eligibility)
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include acute cardiac and cardiac surgery nursing care including post-cath lab patients, post-open heart surgery patients, and management of invasive lines, sheath pulls, and specialty equipment
- Floating responsibilities include arterial line management and sheath pulls when floating to ICU or MS/Tele
- Navy scrubs and business-appropriate hair color required
- Candidates who were directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI and/or Dignity) within the past year are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- A sterile technique pass/fail test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes will be administered on the first day of orientation
- Failing both attempts of the Relias Dysrhythmia exam and/or the sterile technique test will result in ineligibility for CommonSpirit Arizona and Sacramento-region facilities for 6 months

Cons
Cost of living is High, roughly $2000-2500 for your own private space. Float between East and West Campus, 25 minutes apart, west will likely be where you spend 75% of your shifts so pick your housing accordingly.
