Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week travel contract at a Level II Trauma Center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and active NE or Compact RN licensure.

- Acute care ICU setting at a Level II Trauma Center
- 33-bed ICU unit with an average daily census of 16 patients
- Patient population includes trauma, cardiac, overdose/substance abuse, sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2–3 for adult patients
- RNs are required to titrate drips, including cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation
- RNs are required to read, interpret, and document telemetry strips; GE monitor brand used with tele tech oversight
- Respiratory equipment ranges from nasal cannula to mechanical ventilation
- Charting is performed in Epic
- 12-hour day shifts, 0630–1830
- Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) required
- Floating may be required, typically to PCU and occasionally Med/Surg, with similar patient ratios (1:4 or 1:5)
- On-call callbacks require arrival within 30 minutes
- Minimum of 2 holidays that fall within the contract period are required
Requirements
- Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS; pending certifications are not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of ICU nursing experience required
- Epic EMR experience
- Ability to titrate cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation drips
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; a driver's license is used to verify permanent address
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
- Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility
Additional Information
- Unit orientation consists of 1 shift, followed by a pass/fail open-book exam administered on Wednesdays; a score of 90% or higher is required to pass — failure results in contract termination
- Nurse aides are available based on census and may assist with 1:1 patient sitting or general floor support; a Healthcare Support Tech is available 3 days per week (Monday–Friday, 0800–1630)
- Scheduling is self-directed for core staff; travelers are added into the schedule and block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them will result in contract termination
- RTO requests of 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
- Candidates who were previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms at a CommonSpirit-affiliated facility may still be considered
