Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Oncology travel assignment at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring 2 years of large hospital experience, Epic proficiency, and an active ND or Compact RN license.
Details
- Acute care setting on a dedicated inpatient oncology unit (6S/7S) within a large hospital (250+ beds)
- 6S houses 16 inpatient oncology beds; 7S houses 12 inpatient hematology/bone marrow transplant beds
- Patient population includes medically complex hematology/oncology patients requiring blood products, antibiotics, and chemotherapy/symptom management
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:3 for chemotherapy or BMT patients, 1:4–5 for general oncology patients, and 1:4–6 on nights
- 12-hour shifts on a day/night rotating schedule with every other weekend required
- Every other holiday required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating required to other Med/Surg units within the same campus and potentially to other Fargo Med/Surg locations
- Epic EMR used; experience required
- Equipment includes Philips Care Monitors, glucometers, bladder scanners, language line, and Zebra phones
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active ND or Compact RN license required (willing to wait for candidates in process of obtaining)
- Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) required
- Minimum 2 years of recent nursing experience in a large inpatient hospital setting (250+ beds)
- Level I Trauma Center experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Two professional references required: one from a supervisor within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and one from a peer or supervisor in the same specialty within the last 3 years
- Active certifications required at time of consideration — no pending certifications accepted
- Willingness to float to all Med/Surg units and locations within the Fargo area
Additional Information
- Nurses perform head-to-toe assessments, administer medications, manage chemotherapy side effects, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team (IDT) to update patients and families
- Nurses trained in chemotherapy administration may be assigned to administer chemo accordingly
- Orientation consists of 8 hours of classroom training followed by 24–36 hours of unit-specific training
- Will not work alone on the unit
- Holiday coverage required on an every-other-holiday rotation
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Candidates must not have a permanent address within 60 miles of the facility to be eligible for this position
- Candidates living between 60–80 miles from the facility are eligible but will receive a local travel pay rate
- Previous employment at any Sanford Health location must be disclosed; prior Sanford employees must have an end date at least 6 months before consideration
- Travel experience is highly preferred; inpatient oncology experience preferred, with hematology and bone marrow transplant experience considered a strong bonus
