Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Critical Care Float Pool position requiring proficiency in both ICU and PCU settings, a GA or compact RN license, and a minimum of 2 years of experience in both specialties.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting with float responsibilities across MICU, SICU, and CCU units, with possible float to a stepdown unit or ED for tasking
  • ICU ratios are 1:2 depending on acuity; open heart cases are 1:1 and only assigned to travelers with open heart experience
  • High-acuity ICU patient population including sepsis, DKA, ARDS, MODS, cardiovascular surgeries, post-vascular procedures, and CRRT/IABP cases (no prior CRRT or IABP experience required)
  • MICU has 12 beds, CCU has 12 beds, and SICU has 14 beds
  • Charting is performed in MEDITECH 6.15; prior experience is preferred
  • Night shift, 12-hour shifts (6:45 PM start)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Holiday coverage required in coordination with core staff
  • Nurses are assigned a primary unit but float within the ICU pod
  • Forest green scrubs or white pants with white top required
  • Draeger ventilators used in the ICU
  • Standard ICU drips administered
  • Intensivist and NP on each unit during days; NP in-house and intensivist on call at night
  • RT and pharmacy available 24/7
  • PICC team available for IV access
  • Nurse techs assist with ADLs, fingersticks, and I/O
  • Charge nurses run each unit and are generally kept out of the staffing grid

Requirements

  • Active GA RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS (or ASLS)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in both ICU and PCU/stepdown settings
  • Strong ICU assessment skills with a well-rounded medical, surgical, and cardiac background
  • Experience in a larger hospital setting required
  • Driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Nurses will present patients at interdisciplinary rounds
  • 2-shift orientation provided upon start
  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
  • Candidates who have been employed by this facility within the last 12 months are not eligible
  • Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible for placement
  • Any time-off or scheduling requests must be submitted prior to the start of the assignment
  • Alaris pump experience is a plus
