Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Acute Care Med/Surg unit in Albany, GA, requiring at least 2 years of med/surg experience and a GA or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work setting is a 483-bed acute care hospital in Albany, GA
  • 14-bed Med/Surg unit (Acute Care 1) serving a diverse medical patient population including diabetic, CHF, COPD, GI bleed, renal failure, dialysis, post-surgical, amputation/debridement, wound care, DVT, ETOH, and psych patients
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6 on both days and nights; candidates must be comfortable managing this ratio
  • CNA support available, generally at a 1:12 ratio, though CNAs may be pulled for 1:1 sitter assignments
  • Telemetry monitoring is conducted on a separate unit; nurses are not required to read strips
  • Charge nurse does not carry a patient assignment except when necessary
  • Equipment used includes CPAP (all shifts) and BiPAP (nights only)
  • Common medications include Lasix, Bumex, and Heparin
  • EMR: MEDITECH
  • 17-week assignment with 12-hour night shifts (6:45–7:15)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating required to all acute care, cardiology (for medical patients), and the EC for acute care patient holds
  • Cancellation policy allows up to 12 hours off every 2 weeks

Requirements

  • Active GA or compact RN license required
  • Required certifications: BLS (AHA) and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS); ACLS preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of med/surg experience required
  • Experience in a larger, high-acuity, high-volume, fast-paced hospital required; Critical Access Hospital (CAH) experience does not meet this requirement
  • Driver's license required for consideration
  • Must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible for placement
  • Must not have been employed by this facility within the last 12 months

Additional Information

  • Primary Care Nursing model is practiced on this unit
  • LPNs and LPN-Cs are also utilized on the floor
  • Strict attendance policy is enforced: candidates may be asked about missed shifts during a previous contract as part of the consideration process
  • Dress code: Caribbean Blue top and bottom, White top with Caribbean Blue bottom, or all-white scrubs
  • Orientation is 3 days (16 hours)
  • Only polished natural nails are permitted; artificial, gel, or shellac nails are strictly prohibited due to CLABSI prevention protocols
  • Hand hygiene is closely monitored; sanitizer usage tracking badges are issued upon arrival and must be returned at the end of the assignment
  • Holiday coverage is expected as part of normal scheduling rotation with permanent staff
  • No bags are permitted at the nurses' station; a lock may be brought for locker use
